OpenAI has introduced a GitHub connector for ChatGPT’s deep research tool, allowing users to analyze codebases and engineering docs directly from GitHub. Now in beta, the connector helps break down product specs, summarize code structure, and provide real code examples for implementing APIs. It’s available for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team users, with support for Enterprise and Edu coming soon.
The connector respects user permissions and only accesses explicitly shared repositories. This move reflects OpenAI’s broader push into coding tools, including its Codex CLI and upgraded desktop app.
OpenAI also launched fine-tuning options for its o4-mini and GPT-4.1 nano models—o4-mini fine-tuning is limited to verified organizations, while GPT-4.1 nano fine-tuning is open to all paying developers.
