Perplexity, the AI-powered search startup, is about to launch a new browser called Comet—and it’s not just another way to browse the web. According to CEO Aravind Srinivas, Comet is designed to deeply learn about its users' online behavior to build detailed profiles and deliver hyper-targeted premium ads.
Unlike most browsers that primarily track searches or basic site visits, Comet aims to go much deeper. It wants to understand what you shop for, which restaurants you like, what travel sites you check out, and pretty much every digital breadcrumb you leave behind. The idea is to give Perplexity’s AI a fuller view of your life, beyond just work-related searches.
Srinivas admits that the more the browser knows about you, the better it can serve “relevant” ads. While this level of transparency is rare—especially in a tech world that often masks its data collection practices—it also raises serious privacy concerns. Perplexity is openly stating what other companies like Google, Meta, and even Apple are often accused of doing quietly.
